Ages and Stages: Isabel’s story
My own daughter’s journey is a beacon of inspiration, showcasing how every child can unlock their full potential with the right mix of love, support, and determination.
Step 1: Recognize.
Age 7
Isabel faced the challenges of Dyslexia from an early age. Her journey began at a specialized school, where she struggled to keep up with her peers and often felt overwhelmed by her learning differences. Eventually, she transitioned to a parochial school, hoping for a change in environment and support.
Step 2: Evaluate.
Age 8
Recognizing Isabel's unique needs, her family sought help from tutors and psychotherapists, embarking on a journey to understand her learning style and how best to support her. Reports from school echoed Isabel's challenges that included anxiety around work, especially during tests and when meeting new teachers.
Step 3: Build Support.
Age 13
With determination and a strong support system in place, including weekly tutoring sessions and meetings with understanding teachers, Isabel learned valuable strategies to manage her anxiety and navigate her dyslexia.
Step 4: Identify Strengths.
Age 16
Through this process, Isabel discovered her strengths in creative writing and storytelling. Despite not reading fluently until the age of 11, Isabel's unique understanding of language became her superpower, igniting a passion for reading and writing.
Step 5: Unconditional Love.
Leah played a crucial role in helping to guide the family in providing unwavering love, patience, and support every step of the way. Together, they embraced Isabel's differences and celebrated her journey of growth and self-discovery. Today, Isabel thrives as a confident reader and writer, attending a top-rated public school and excelling in her studies, a testament to the power of embracing differences and nurturing strengths.
